Baptisms (Christenings)
We are very pleased to baptise (christen) children who live in the parish. If you would like your child baptised we will meet with you several times to discuss the Christian upbringing of children and the meaning of the Baptism service. Children are baptised on the basis of their parents’ commitment to live as followers of Jesus Christ, and on the understanding that parents and children will take part in the life of the Church community. Older baptism candidates are also welcome, and we make special arrangements for their preparation.

Weddings
We are happy to marry any couple where either or both are living in the parish. Unfortunately it is currently against the law for us to marry any couple unless one of them is living in the parish, or on the electoral roll of the parish. Please check with the Rector about the residence qualification. After suitable preparation, we are in some cases willing to re-marry divorced people.
You can find out more about weddings and getting married on the Church of England website http://www.cofe.anglican.org/
If you are getting married at St Edmund’s or another church, and need to find out about having your Banns read at St Edmund’s, please find out more about Banns of Marriage here.
If you have arranged with the Rector for your wedding to take place at St Edmund’s, please find out about arranging your wedding at St Edmund’s here
Funerals
Members of the ministry team are always willing to conduct funerals, and give priority to being available for families in grief. The arrangements are usually made through an undertaker. We are also available to discuss funeral arrangements well in advance of the event.

Visiting
Prayers in a new home
Moving into a new home is a big event in anyone’s life. If you would like prayers in your new home, (or for any other reason), please contact the Rector.
Confirmation
We are always pleased to prepare people for confirmation, and believe that it is never too late to be confirmed. If you feel you would be interested in making this step of commitment and growing in faith please contact the Rector for an informal chat.
Holy Communion at home
The ministry team and other members of the congregation visit Residential Homes for the elderly in the parish and conduct monthly Communion services there. We also visit those who wish to receive Communion at home and are not able to come to church. If you are in this position, or if you know of a member of the Church who is, please contact the Rector.
